The over-supply of drama is something we see with movies, too. I think this is largely down to the economics, in that drama is perhaps the cheapest genre, given that it requires nothing more than a camera to be switched on (you could argue that you also need to turn on the sound equipment but the existence of mumblecore shows the good sound is just a “nice to have” for many dramas).
The under-supply of comedy is an interesting result. This could be due to the fact that comedy has much more “rewatchabilty” when compared to drama, or it could be that there are not enough good comedies available to the streaming giants. Whichever it is, audiences want more.
